Paul E. Wylie, MD
President of Preferred Research Partners
Dr. Wylie was born in St. Louis, Missouri and grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He attended the University of Oklahoma – Norman and obtained a B.S. in Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry in 1984. He completed medical school at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine – OKC in 1988, completed his internship and a residency in Psychiatry at UAMS – Little Rock in 1992 and obtained Psychiatry Board Certification in 1994.
Dr. Wylie entered the private practice of psychiatry in Little Rock in 1993 and soon became interested in the newly developing field of Sleep Medicine, eventually achieving Board Certification in 1995, and then guiding the development, expansion, and initial ASDA accreditation of the St. Vincent Infirmary Sleep Center as Medical Director from 1993 to 1997. Ultimately, seeking to improve the quality of care in sleep medicine, Dr. Wylie established the Arkansas Center for Sleep Medicine, the state’s first privately operated sleep medicine practice and testing facility in 1998.
Dr. Wylie practiced inpatient and outpatient adult and child psychiatry for 30 years and sleep medicine for 27 years before closing his practices and focusing on serving as a principal investigator for clinical trials.
Dr. Wylie’s interest in clinical trials began in 1999 when he was asked to serve as an investigator for device development by Respironics, the worldwide leader at the time in the creation of innovative sleep medicine respiratory products. Dr. Wylie eventually served 19 years as an investigator and consultant for Respironics, advising on development of the world’s first autoCPAP device, CFlex and AFlex software, the world’s first autoBiPAP device featuring BiFlex software, and most importantly advised on creation of the world’s first treatment for complex sleep apnea and multiple types of central sleep apneas – the BiPAPautoASV, initially known as the HeartPAP, first discussed at Cajun’s Wharf restaurant in Little Rock.
Dr. Wylie was also a contributor to the development of Respironics’ AVAPS technology, multiple new PAP masks and new PAP machines, several PAP compliance and patient education software platforms, sleep lab titration devices, multiple home apnea test devices, and Cereve’s FDA approved insomnia treatment device. Dr. Wylie served as an investigator for the initial development of multiple first-in-class RLS, Insomnia and Hypersomnia medications. Prior to their death, Dr. Wylie was honored and privileged to have experienced a professional friendship with Drs. William Dement – the Father of Sleep Medicine and Christian Guilleminault, a true pioneer in the field of sleep medicine practice and research.
Dr. Wylie was the founder, designer and Medical Director of Little Rock’s Lynn Institute of the Ozarks research program and facility in 2005 to 2008. In 2009, at the request of multiple disenchanted research investigators and colleagues, Dr. Wylie co-founded with his remarkable business partner, Amy Kelley, RN, a new clinical trial research company – Preferred Research Partners – Little Rock – and has subsequently served as PRP’s primary principal investigator, Medical Director and President for the past 15 years, performing over 250 clinical trials of all phases in a wide variety of therapeutic areas and training new investigators to further the development of clinical research in Arkansas.
Dr. Wylie is blessed to work with many long term PRP staff members committed to performing ethical and conscientious research and providing compassionate care to the citizens of Arkansas. Recently, Dr. Wylie has been focused on the creation, development and operations of Preferred Research Partners – NWA located in Fayetteville, AR which opened on June 1, 2024.
Dr. Wylie is a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals and Oklahoma Sooners fan and enjoys attending ball games in his spare time. He enjoys time with his dog, golfing, fishing, cycling, softball, martial arts, poker, reading and especially being an active father to his two lovely daughters Julianne and Taryn. Dr. Wylie is also an avid fan of his wonderful wife, Linda, with whom he enjoys working, traveling and spending time with her four sons and their families
